12 Days of Christmas 2011 - Day 8

On The 8th Day Of Christmas, Wee Sally gave to you… Reiki!

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is believed to be all around us. The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a therapist is a very simple process. The client simply lies on the bed and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the client to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything. The therapist gently places their hands in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.

Reiki does not use any medication or instruments, but uses looking, blowing, light tapping, and touching. You simply touch the diseased parts of the body, massage them, tap them lightly, stroke them, blow on them, fix your gaze upon them for two to three minutes, and specifically give them energy, and uses a technique commonly referred to as palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine. Through the use of this palm healing, Therapists believe that they are transferring universal energy (reiki) in the form of ki through the palms that allows for self-healing.

A simple quote from, The Reiki Association 2008 says:

“As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in one's life.”
