Massage and New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions sound good when you're making them: whether you are resolving to improve your diet, taking up a hobby or hit the gym, the excitement at turning over a new leaf can be intoxicating. Be this as it may, statistics show that a quarter of people fail on their resolutions every year. Still, making resolutions is an important step to changing your life, if only to get you thinking about the direction you would like to take your life in.

Resolutions concerning health (for example, losing weight, getting regular massages, eating more healthily, exercising regularly, meditating) are amongst the most popular resolutions for the year (one in three set goals related to weight loss alone). Making a decision to improve your health is really all about making a decision to improve your quality of life overall. For example, if you feel better physically and mentally you will get a better quality of sleep, meaning your days are much more productive. This is the year you could really throw a focus on your health and improve your whole life for the better.

The very act of list-making can help you arrange your priorities for effectively. The key is to break down your resolutions into bite-sized portions, otherwise known as chunking. 'Chunking' a single goal into a bunch of easy steps can make the resolution seem much more obtainable. So, rather than making a resolution 'I need to lose weight', you could write:

  1. Cycle to work

  2. Take up yoga

  3. Find a personal trainer

  4. Get regular massages

  5. Buy books on healthy recepies

  6. Cook one new healthy dish a week

  7. Drink plenty of water

  8. Give myself occasional treats (for example a new outfit)
