How Massage can help with common Pregnancy Discomforts.

Morning sickness, Nausea or vomiting may strike anytime during the day (or night).

Try eating frequent, small meals and avoid greasy foods. Keep crackers or ginger biscuits by your bed to eat before getting up. Reflexology is great as a reflexology point can relieve the feeling of nausea. This point is the solar plexus reflex point that is located on the sole of the left foot.

Tiredness. Sometimes tiredness in pregnancy is caused by anemia, so tell your doctor. Get enough rest. Take a daytime nap if possible. Massage can also help with this, Aromatherapy have oils that can help improve sleep. Why not try this: run a warm bubble bath, add the oil and relax. This will increase circulation help relax your whole body but also help with the sleep.

Leg cramps. Massage is perfect for this. We can reduce any sort of swelling in legs and do Gentle stretches to reduce those nasty cramps.

Moodiness. Your hormones are on a roller coaster ride during pregnancy. Plus, your life is undergoing a big change. Massage always has a feel good factor about it because it releases Endorphins to make you happy. Massage can improve your mood after just one session.

Stuffy nose. This is related to changes in the levels of the female hormone estrogen. You may also have nosebleeds. Essential oils have all kinds of advantages, one of them is that such oils as Eucalyptus and Tea Tree can help get rid of stuffiness and congestion. Dabbing a few drops beneath the eyes, over the forehead and around the nose can work wonders.

Other benefits of pregnancy massage include helping the pelvis be ready for the actual process of giving birth as well as helping the baby achieve the proper position for a natural delivery. First time mothers find these to be very helpful. Pregnancy massage have also been proven to decrease recovery time after the birth.

Treatments that can be performed during Pregnancy.

Reflexology is great for pregnant women as it takes the strain off their feet and can also reduce swelling around the lower leg and feet, but as the feet have reflex points which match certain organs, and muscles in the body the ankles should be avoided as a precaution. This is because the reflex point connected to the ankles is the uterus.

Reflexology can also be used in conjunction with other treatments such as pedicures, paraffin wax masks, hot booties etc. all these are great as the increase the blood flow to the feet and can reduce swelling. Plus, who does’t love getting a relaxing foot rub right?

Facials are perfect for pregnant woman as towards the start and middle of pregnancy, due to hormones going Crazy! Women tend to find their skin gets breakouts, becomes over oily or dry, the products they were using before either don’t work now or cannot be used. This can put people down because they become even more self conscious so why not try a facial treatment?

Facials involve a full skin analysis which is done after a first cleanse. This reveals what your skin is like and we can identify the appropriate products to use. Facials normally involve cleanse, tone and moisturize but also masques, exfoliation and usually a face/scalp massage. This type of treatment can improve the skin after just one session by increasing circulation, regulating the sebaceous glands (these control how much oil is secreted onto the skin) but also just by using the right products you can keep it clean, moisturized but also protect it from the weather. Your therapist may also recommend some products for you to use at home.

Massage during pregnancy is wonderfully relaxing for anyone. It can help many issues women get during this stressful time, such as releasing tension in the shoulders, reduce lower back pain from carrying the extra weight, reduce swelling, improve appetite, improve mood (due to release of endorphins) etc and you can pick from a wide variety of massages and even mix and match them with other treatments, for example: Get a back, neck & shoulder massage to reduce back pain then reflexology to reduce swelling in the feet. Massage is also great because it helps flush out all the waste products and bad bacteria that is carried around your body.

November is Yummy Mummy Month!

Now, Since it is Yummy Mummy Month, we are putting some things together for those special mummy’s and mummy-to-be’s. Recently the amount of women falling pregnant has risen but some believe that treatments and pampering now need to go on hold until after the baby is born.

Not True!

If anything pampering treatments during pregnancy are very beneficial. A lot of women nowadays are skeptical when it comes to beauty treatments because they are worried it will harm the baby or could make something go wrong, this is and isn’t true.

Yes, some treatments can not be performed during pregnancy, some oils and lotions can’t be used etc but this in no way is the case for EVERY treatment.

Spa’s and salons design pampering around being pregnant, which is why we have decided to come up with our “Yummy Mummy Package”

Our Yummy Mummy Package is specifically designed for pregnant women. It includes either a 30 or 60 minute massage, then afterwards a luxury facial including a nourishing masque and a relaxing facial massage (Before the facial begins you will receive a skin analysis to ensure we use the correct  products for your skin type). Also included in this package is an Aromatherapy oil which will be used during the treatment. This oil is designed to be used during pregnancy to help eliminate stretch marks but it is also non-toxic and wont affect the pregnancy in any way. It can be applied directly onto the area affected or it can be put in a bath to help you relax.

There are a few factors to consider when an expectant mother chooses a beneficial and safe treatment.

First, avoid any treatment involving excessive heat. Saunas, stream rooms and body wraps can cause internal body temperatures to rise too high.

Second, avoid any treatment that requires you to lie flat on your back for a long period of time. This can effect circulation--and it can be uncomfortable.

Finally, being pregnant might mean you have developed a sensitivity to certain smells. If this is the case, let us know as soon as possible so we can ensure this won’t affect your treatment, especially since we are using aromatherapy.
Warning us in advance will ensure that you receive the best possible treatment every time.

Our Yummy Mummy treatments will be available from Nov 1st - Nov 30th with Caitlin, so be sure to give us a call and get booked in.

The 30 min Massage + Facial costs £40 and the whole treatment lasts over an hour.
